John D. Larlee was appointed Chair of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board in 2009. He is a bilingual lawyer, having practiced law since 1975. He opened the John D. Larlee Law Office in July 1975 and engaged in the private practice of law as a general practitioner until May 1995. He was president of the Restigouche Barristers Society from 1984 to 1985, and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the Law Society of New Brunswick from 1992 to 1998. He served as a provincial and federal prosecutor for 11 years and as New Brunswick's expropriations advisory officer for over 15 years. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1993. In 1995, he joined the law firm of Hanson Hashey (now Cox and Palmer) in Fredericton, and was a partner in the firm from 1998 to 2009. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and a member in good standing of the Law Society of New Brunswick. He has also been a Labour Arbitrator and member of the Expedited Labour Arbitration Panel in New Brunswick and a mediator in private personal injury and disability pension matters.
Mr. Larlee obtained a Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1971, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick in 1975. In 2005, he completed the Harvard Law School Mediation Workshop.
Mr. Larlee has devoted time to his community, having served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Campbellton Regional Hospital from 1983 until 1992, and as President of the Campbellton Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses. He has also served as a Campbellton City Councillor. Mr. Larlee relocated to Prince Edward Island in 2009.
