Dorothy O’Keefe was appointed to the Veterans Review and Appeal Board in 2010. She brings with her extensive work experience in administrative tribunals. She is a former Chairperson of the Board of Referees, the body responsible for hearing appeals of decisions made by the Canada Employment Insurance Commission. In her capacity as a decision maker for this independent administrative tribunal, she led three person panels and made rulings in individual cases based on the evidence presented and according to the applicable legislation. Ms. O’Keefe also worked as an advisor to elected officials at both the provincial and federal levels. In this position, she counseled individuals on appeal options and, when requested, represented individuals at appeal hearings before the Canada Pension/Old Age Security Tribunal, the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, and the Workers Compensation Commission.
Ms. O’Keefe holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University and is a certified public speaker through the Dale Carnegie Institute of Training.
Formerly a resident of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Ms. O’Keefe served on the Cowan Heights Elementary School Council from 2007 to 2010, as a Member, Vice Chair and Chairperson. She is married and has a teenage son.
