Staff

The Board employs approximately 85 operational staff to support the delivery of its program.

Director General: Provides strategic leadership and direction for the effective planning and management of Board operations and corporate management programs.

• Professional Development and Advisory Services: Trains new Board Members and coordinates, on an ongoing basis, specialized training and development initiatives for Board Members on issues of legislation, administrative law, weighing of evidence, military issues, medical conditions, conduct of hearings and decision writing.
  
  
• Communications: Promotes awareness and understanding of the Board’s program to internal and external audiences.

  • Information Management: Assists applicants and the public with any questions or requests they may have through enquiries lines and email. Manages the Board’s electronic and paper records.
    
    
  • Analysts: Support the Board’s corporate, program and operational planning and management. Prepare reports to be submitted to Treasury Board.
    
    
  • Operations Support: Determines jurisdiction and verifies claim information. Prepares the Statement of Case (hearing documentation) for each application that comes before the Board.
    
    
  • Scheduling: Coordinates with applicants, representatives and Members to schedule appropriate hearing times and locations.
    
    
  • Adjudicative Assistants: Provides adjudicative and administrative support to Board Members.
    
    
  • Quality Management: Provides analytical support and feedback to Board Members.
    
    
• Legal Services: Provides independent legal advice, support and services to the Board on matters of law and policy.
  
  
• Administration: Provides administrative support services to the Board, including the coordination of travel, and finance and human resource planning and reporting.
  
  
• Systems: Supports all computer and systems-related activities within the Board. Develops new web-based products and technologies to make hearing processes more efficient. Enters outcome of VRAB decisions into the VAC Client Service Delivery Network for processing.
